Baldur’s Gate 3 has adjusted its September 2025 patch notes to reflect support for Intel XeSS it forgot to mention. While Larian Studios is hard at work on other, currently unspecified, future projects, the company hasn’t abandoned its massively successful 2023 RPG. Updates for Baldur’s Gate 3 are still rolling out, and the latest one is even bigger than it initially seemed.
Larian has made it clear that the studio is shifting its focus away from the RPG, but that hasn’t impeded its popularity. After the last major update came out in April 2025, Baldur’s Gate 3 drew over 169,000 concurrent players on Steam, a jump of more than 100,000 people over the day prior. Since then, the game has received multiple smaller patches and hotfixes, but at least one was not quite as small as players may have thought.
Baldur's Gate 3 Updates September Patch 2025 Notes to Reflect Intel XeSS Support
On September 30, a week after the last patch went live, Larian tweeted that it forgot to mention the update includes support for Intel XeSS on compatible devices. When it first came out, the biggest highlight of the September update was that Baldur’s Gate 3 now has a native Steam Deck build, giving handheld users a more consistent experience and better performance. Support for XeSS may not be quite as big an announcement, but gamers using Intel tech or third-party GPUs that feature XeSS will be happy to know they can now get more out of their setup in the game.
While Intel debuted its XeSS upscaling technology in 2022, it’s taken some games time to update and support the competitor to Nvidia’s DLSS. Now the 2023 Game of the Year joins the growing list of titles that let players push resolutions even higher through the tech, and that’s not all Larian had to announce. In a response to the tweet revealing XeSS support, the studio commented on a recent freezing issue on PS5, saying players can temporarily fix it by turning off Performance Mode.
Larian is investigating the problem and working on a long-term solution, but the tip may still be helpful for PlayStation users in the meantime. Improving PS5 performance is a big deal right now, as at least 26 new Baldur’s Gate 3 mods have come to consoles recently. Fixing the crashing issue should help players enjoy those mods while Larian works on a permanent answer to the problem. Beyond that, future patches and hotfixes are sure to come, though Baldur’s Gate 3 won’t get any more major updates.
